The B.C. Conservatives are alleging voting irregularities in the Surrey-Guildford riding, where the NDP secured a majority government by a slim 22-vote margin. Central to the controversy are 21 mail-in ballots from Argyll Lodge, an addictions recovery facility. The Conservatives claim residents were pressured to vote and did not request ballots, contradicting Elections B.C.'s policies.
Facility manager Baljit Kandola denies any wrongdoing, stating residents voted independently, with staff assisting only for language barriers. The Conservatives, however, highlight discrepancies between Kandola's statements and election protocols.
Party leader John Rustad has called for a commission of inquiry, citing additional concerns such as double voting and non-resident ballots in the riding. While Elections B.C. is reviewing the claims, the Conservatives are demanding RCMP involvement to investigate potential violations of the Election Act.
